The Bentley 3 liter was a sports-car of the Bentley Motors Ltd. and was first published in Mai 1919 - at the time it had an engine-dummy. The development of the engine took quite some time, but eventually the first Bentley 3 liter was delivered in September 1921.
1.619 chassis were produced from 1921 till 1929. The last relevant year of production was 1927 with only 117 chassis being built.
The 3 liter was available in three different models, where the engine power and wheelbase differ. They are distinguishable by the color of the radiator grill emblem:
Red Label: with high-compression-engine (compression ratio: 5,3:1 & 117,5 Inch wheelbase / 2.985 mm) Green Label: the high performance model (compression ratio: 6,3:1 & short wheelbase of 108 Inch / 2.743mm) Blue Label: the standard model (117,5 Inch / 2.985 mm or 130 Inch / 3.302 mm wheelbase)
The here shown Bentley 3 liter Vanden Pas Sports 2-Seater is from 1027 and is one of the rare "Red Label" Speed Models. Only 513 cars of this type were produced.
The Bentley was delivered to his first owner Stanley Davidson in 1927. It stayed in his possession approximately until 1954.
From 1960 till 2014 Keith Schellenberg owned the Bentley. He was participant in the Olympic Winter Games as a luge- and bob-pilot in 1956 and 1965.
Since 2016 the Bentley 3 liter is in a big collection in Germany.
In December 2016 the well known Bentley specialist Clare Hay examined the car.
